The sad winter of 1914-15.

  • “The first manifestation of the infinite goodness and inexhaustible mercy of our God Father during my government at the head of this parish, was the difficult solution to the conflict of hunger in the winter of 1914."
  • With these words of our founder, Father D. Francisco Lara Araujo, Vicar archpriest of Sanlúcar de Barrameda and Chipiona pastor, gave to beginning their memoirs and the story of the creation of the Agricultural Catholic Union of Chipiona.
  • The winter of 1914 was especially hard. "It was the year of the declaration of war between Germany and France. Declaration, that later, ended in worldwar”.
  • In our population the daily life went, apparently, outside of those events. Arrived the time of grape harvest. Time in which the population, composed by farmers or “Mayetas”, deposited their hopes on sell the produce to eat and go to the winter.
  • However, the "stop" that year was not like other years. The stoppage of the commercial relations they dissipated all hope to sell the must. This situation caused that many families go through difficult times. The Municipality took emergency actions to alleviate the situation. “There are many works, fittings and improvements that, without a doubt, gave splendor and brightness to the aureole of prestige of our town like a summer season site.
